Recent_opinions
Some opinions that have recently percolated into the packet’s awareness. Preserved here for our later amusement at how foolish I could be.
Rust is hard: builds are slow cross-compilation is hard (especially for -sys packages.) Good luck getting a Rust/C++ binary to cross-compile. hard to learn The Rust evangelization has found stony ground in the packet. I am almost always fine with sacrificing a small amount of performance to excuse me from anticipating the complexities of object lifetimes.

Inventing the Future
Probably you know Evernote as one of the High Tech unicorns. I used to work for them. Though I left the work a while ago, I still use Evernote everyday. I have been evaluating alternatives. So far I am not finding better one for me.
Evernote service seems to be standing still for sevearl years. They used to push out new ideas and features all the time. Sometime I even felt we were doing too much.

I am a neglected packet
It’s been so long since I last posted anything. Shame on me. In theory, I have done interesting things in the interim and can write about them. In particular, I have been making a series of changes to my local copy of Plan9 in user space. I will be making these available or even upstreaming over the coming months.

Bookmarks from the Omnibar
Hello gentle readers. I have finished the first version of my Chrome extension for posting pinboard.in bookrmarks from the Chrome omnibox. The general idea is that, with the extension installed, you can type +pin hardware Buy a new computer to record a bookmark for the current page with the tag hardware and the note Buy a new computer.
You can get it at github. I’ll package it up soon and then brave the process for submission to the extensions archive.

Pinboard
Oh devoted readers, you will recall from earlier that I was bemoaning the possible end of delicious. And my waxing cassandra on the matter. Eventually, I decided to use Google bookmarks. I have revisited my choices. I was finding Google bookmarks tedious. Besides, I wanted something different. So, I have done what I should have done in the first place and am now using Pinboard.
This has required some integration with my web-browsing work-flow.

Broken Packet
The packet is undergoing maintenance. It’s sad but true. Some fractured bones have limited the packet’s mobility, quality of life, etc. It makes exploring the alleyways of the physical world more difficult. Conversely, it has provided the packet with more time to explore the alleyways of the internet. And catch up on his reading. And possibly his blogging as well.
My small but devoted audience may recall that earlier, I had started noting books that friends had leant me and was beginning to comment on them.

Food
Dinner for two nights. Cabbage with miso sauce: I stir-fried cabbage with tinned fish, discarded the onion because it had withered up and added miso sauce: siracha, miso, rice vinegar, ginger. With a picture because I mentioned food photos.

Books Oh My
Friends have leant me an assortment of books. I have nice friends. They have diverse interests. I’ve been reading them slowly. Some comments about them are in order.
First finished book: World War Z. I would pronounce the last letter zed though I suppose the name has more humour as zee rhyming with three. What a strange saga. The zombies need a why. In particular how they resist rotting. Still, I was entertained.

Interpersonal Difference
The packet has over the last few weeks been busy trying to meet a work-related milestone. It would be mildly therapeutic to rant about the challenges of our schedule but this would be both indiscreet and tedious.
Consequently, any non-work time has been spent with friends instead of more terminal time to blog or debug. (Note how the chrome plugin has not received any maintenance.)
In this time, the packet has become aware of an aspect of human behavior which differs hugely between his friends: their respective acceptance (or even enjoyment) of off-colour humor.
